The Legend of Florista
Long ago, there was a place where only a few people resided. Among them was a couple, Lucio and Magda, with their only child named Florecita. That place was too narrow and had so many gigantic trees. The residents as well as the people of nearby towns were afraid of the place not only because of the scattered fierce and wild beasts, but because it was known as enchanters’ or spirits’ haven. There was a rumor that persons who went there would suddenly vanish or would not be able to go back to where they came from. That was why, Florecita was forbidden to walk around the place.
One day, Florecita was alone in their house. Her parents prohibited her from going out. While her parents were away, however, she went to the enchanted place out of her curiosity. As the couple came back, they immediately noticed that Florecita was not inside their abode.
Full of restlessness and fear, the couple went to that enchanted spot where they thought Florecita would go. They looked for her. Unfortunately, they found nothing, not even a tiny trace of their young lady.
Several days after, the couple still hoped to find their daughter. It was then when they noticed various flowers that were blooming on a formerly grassy area. The flowers were beautiful and colorful. The couple thought that the sudden blooming of the flowers had to do with the loss of Florecita.
No one saw or knew what really happened to her. But ever since her loss, their place became safe and nobody else was lost again. People assumed that Florecita sacrificed her life to end the mystery and enchantment of their place.
As time passed by, they named the place after Florecita. They called it Florista, which means “
